The Role of Civil Society in Promoting  The Good Governance

In partnership with Yemen Coalition for Transparency and Anti-Corruption and under RJP's program, OPI implemented a training activity within the project of "support the outcomes of good governance adopted by the national conference.  

The Project Goal:

The project aims to enhance the transitional term and mobility of community support to the outcome of good governance and its issues, rising awareness of society in the outcomes of good governance, as well as to activate the role of civil society in the good governance and achieve efficient public management.  

Activities:

A workshop implemented 23-24 November 2013 about the role of civil society in promoting the good governance. It targeted 15 young man and woman working in the civil society in Sana'a. The participants prepared three work planes advocating the outcomes of good governance in the Comprehensive National Conference.

Print out and release of a poster for rising-awareness in supporting the outcomes of good governance in the comprehensive national conference.

Promoting Transparency in Political Finance in Yemen

In partnership with IFES, OPI implemented the project "Enhance Transparency in the political Finance in Yemen" during five months in 2013.

Goals:

The project aims at finding a legal environment provide a transparent mechanism efficient to control the political finance and expense and promoting the mechanism of monitoring the political finance by the civil society, ensuring the equality among candidates, and contributing to build confidence with the election process and rising political accountability.

The project includes:

 

ü Two workshops to review research papers about the political finance in Yemen and discussion of a legal draft texts promoting transparency in political finance in Yemen in the participation of government officials, members of parliament, lawyers and actors from political parties, civil society organizations and the media.

ü Advocacy campaign lobbying on government and parliament to adopt legal amendments to the law of elections.

Outcomes:

A book includes a study and legal draft texts promoting the transparency in political finance in Yemen, which was submitted to the political parties, government and parliament to be included in the prospective amendments of the election law according to the GCC’s deal backed by UN.

The project is implemented by OPI in Yemen came in the framework of the project "Promoting transparency in political finance n the Arab region", and in partnership with Arab Parliamentarians Against Corruption (ARPAC) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). It was funded by US Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).

The project is the first regional initiative to address the political finance in the Arab region (Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen), seeking to engage the parliamentarians, governments and civil society organizations in strengthening the capacity of stakeholders in MENA in the tools to enhance transparency in political finance.

Sana'a Human Rights Film Festival:

In partnership with the American Islamic Congress (AIC), OPI implemented a film festival in 5-6 March 2013. The festival screenings includes innovative short films produced and directed by amateur filmmakers from Yemen, Arab countries and other inspiring films from around the world. The films addressed issues of human rights, especially with regard to civil and democratic rights. 

The festival budget:

$4,000 funded by AIC,
